Wikipedia is a free, online encyclopedia written and edited by a community of users. It is one of the most used websites and anyone with access to the internet can contribute. However in the US, around 80% of Wikipedia editors are cis men. Moreover, only about 20% of biographies on Wikipedia are about cis women. There isn't even data on the number of biographies about trans and non-binary folks.

The purpose of the Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon is to raise awareness for the gender bias on Wikipedia and to teach a new generation of Wikipedia editors how to contribute. The goal is to change not only who edits Wikipedia, but also who is written about on the world's largest encyclopedia.
No prior editing experience is required.
We will begin with a tutorial on how to edit Wikipedia pages and provide a list of pages that need editing. Edits can be as simple as fixing broken links, adding wiki-links, and updating references. More experienced editors can add new content to pages, or even add new articles.
The first step to editing articles on Wikipedia is creating an account. We recommend you do this ahead of time. Instructions for creating a Wikipedia account can be found HERE.
If you have trouble, don't worry! We can help you troubleshoot during the Edit-a-Thon!
Next, join our Edit-a-Thon dashboard HERE to track your edits and contributions.
